POSITION : Custom Picture Framer

TYPE: Full time (40 hours / week)

COMPENSATION: Salary: benchmark $20/hour, based on experience. Bonus: based on performance.

LOCATION: Grand Haven, MI

The Custom Picture Framer is responsible for all aspects of picture framing, from cutting and assembling frames to mounting, matting, and completing final picture assembly. This position requires professional craftsmanship with framing tools and techniques, customer service skills, and a keen eye for detail.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Framing & Assembly

  • Operate double mitre power saw and other tools to precision-cut moulding.

  • Assemble frames to professional standards.

  • Perform mounting, matting, and final picture assembly using archival techniques and materials.

  • Repair or adjust existing frames.

  • Maintain equipment and tools in safe working condition.

2. Sales & Customer Service

  • Help customers with frame and mat selection, providing design guidance based on aesthetics and preservation needs.

  • Prepare accurate price quotes for custom framing orders.

  • Process sales transactions and maintain records in Point of Sale system.

3. Other Duties

  • Keep work and retail areas clean and organized.

  • Monitor and order framing materials and supplies.

  • Support the overall presentation of the shop, ensuring displays and samples are well maintained.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Professional custom picture framing experience is highly preferred. For example: skills in mounting, matting, final picture assembly or knowledge of archival framing practices and materials.

  • Operational knowledge of saws and other power tools

  • Sales in a design-related industry and customer service experience

  • Detail-oriented, with strong craftsmanship and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

EDUCATION:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • Additional training, certification, or coursework in framing, design, or art-related fields is preferred.
